Food safety teams inspect 20 establishments in Kukatpally, suspend five licences

HYDERABAD: Ten enforcement teams of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) inspected 20 restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, messes and hostels in Kukatpally on September 9, 2026, and found several food safety violations.
The teams comprised food safety officers and police personnel. Officials found spoiled or contaminated meat and vegetables, pest infestation, unhygienic premises and poor food-handling practices at some establishments.
Five establishments ordered to stop operations immediately
TG SAFE said the food safety licences of five establishments were suspended and they were directed to stop business operations immediately in the interest of public health.
The establishments are Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel, Hotel Sitara Grand, Bake Max Foods Pvt Ltd (Brown Bear Manufacturing Unit) and Mandi King Arabian Restaurant.
Officials reported heavy cockroach infestation, pest-infested and expired food articles, rodent infestation, fungal contamination, unhygienic premises and poor record keeping at the establishments, according to the press note.
At Mandi King Arabian Restaurant, officials found improperly maintained refrigerators, inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and raw and semi-prepared food, spoiled vegetables and unhygienic premises.
Samples lifted as notices planned against other establishments
TG SAFE said it lifted 20 food samples on suspicion of adulteration. Spoiled vegetables and raw materials, including groundnuts, flours and red chillies infested with insects or pests, were discarded on the spot.
Officials also found refrigerators in unclean condition, without proper segregation and labelling of food, and said some food handlers were not maintaining proper hygiene.
GVK New Luxury PG Men’s Hostel was closed after officials found it operating without a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence or registration and in violation of food safety norms.
Improvement notices will be issued to Sri Mahalaxmi Kendra at Gummadi Foods, KS Bakers, Lakshmi Vengamamba Hostel, Padmavathi Delux Mess, Mehfil Restaurant and Sree Harsha Delux Mess. The establishments will be reinspected to check compliance.
Show-cause notices will be issued to Paradise Food Court, Chaitanya Food Court, Bhulakshmi Mess and Godavari Mithai, with further action proposed for imposing penalties.
The authority said the inspection drive was part of special enforcement measures in the Kukatpally area.
