Tg Safe Cracks Down On Food Safety, Suspends 3 Licences

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) inspected 46 food establishments across districts outside the core urban region during a special enforcement drive and found several food safety violations.

Food Safety Officers inspected restaurants, bakeries, dhabas, hotels, sweet shops and hostels, according to TG SAFE.

Officials found spoiled or contaminated meat and vegetables at some establishments. They discarded the items on the spot. They also found cockroach, housefly and rodent infestations, unhygienic premises and lapses in record maintenance.

Officials find lapses in food storage and hygiene

The inspections also found unclean refrigerators and improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Officials detected lapses in food labelling, expired food items and food products affected by pests.

Some food handlers also failed to maintain proper hygiene, officials said.

As part of the enforcement action, officials collected 22 food samples for further analysis on suspicion of adulteration. They also discarded spoiled or rotten vegetables and other food items affected by pest infestation.

Three establishments face licence suspension

TG SAFE will issue improvement notices to 23 establishments. The notices will direct them to rectify the violations found during inspections.

Officials will revisit the establishments to check compliance with food safety norms. They will take further action based on the reinspection findings.

TG SAFE will suspend the FSSAI licences of three establishments and direct them to stop business operations immediately in the interest of public health, officials said.
