Tellapur residents seek to begin Rs 2.09 crore drainage project for Mellacheruvu Lake

HYDERABAD: The Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) urges government departments to start the Rs 2.09 crore drainage diversion project on time. Notably, the Government of India sanctioned the project under the AMRUT 2.0 Scheme to protect Mellacheruvu Lake from sewage pollution.
Recently, Public Health Department officials brought drainage pipelines to Mellacheruvu, signaling work would soon begin. However, last night, someone removed the pipelines from the site for unknown reasons. As a result, this action has worried local residents.
Explaining the issue, TeNA president Ramana Eshwaragari said, “The drainage diversion project will stop untreated sewage from entering Mellacheruvu. In addition, the project will protect the lake’s ecosystem, safeguard groundwater quality, and improve public health. Conversely, any delay or cancellation will harm the environment and disrupt the lives of thousands of residents who rely on a clean lake”.
Therefore, TeNA urges authorities to quickly work with all relevant departments, promptly resolve any issues delaying the project, and continuously maintain work progress without interruption. Furthermore, TeNA asks the government to use all funds from the AMRUT 2.0 Scheme for this project. The association also wants to make sure the drainage project is not cancelled or moved elsewhere.
Tellapur residents firmly promise to support government efforts, actively protect Mellacheruvu, and consistently preserve local water bodies for future generations.
