Hyderabad: Several classic Telugu films are coming back to theaters in August, giving fans a chance to enjoy these movies on the big screen once again. These re-releases are timed to celebrate the birthdays of famous stars and to fill the gap left by the absence of new big-budget films. Each film has its own special charm, whether it’s thrilling action, touching drama, or memorable music. This is a great opportunity for both longtime fans and new viewers to experience some of Telugu cinema’s most iconic movies. Here’s a look at the films returning to theaters this month.

 

1. Okkadu: Re-releasing on August 8, Okkadu is a 2003 romantic sports action film directed by Gunasekhar and starring Mahesh Babu, Bhumika Chawla, and Prakash Raj. With a soundtrack by Mani Sharma, the film became a huge hit and achieved cult status in Telugu cinema, earning a distributor’s share of Rs. 21.1 crore. It won eight Nandi Awards and four Filmfare Awards South, including Best Film – Telugu. Okkadu was remade in several languages, including Tamil as Ghilli (2004) and Hindi as Tevar (2015).

2. Murari: Murari, a 2001 supernatural family drama directed by Krishna Vamsi and featuring Mahesh Babu, Sonali Bendre, and Lakshmi, is scheduled for re-release on August 9. The film is notable for Sonali Bendre’s Telugu debut and Mani Sharma’s music. It was a commercial success and received positive reviews. The movie won three Nandi Awards, including Second Best Feature Film. Murari was remade in Kannada as Gopi (2006) and dubbed into Hindi as Rowdy Cheetah (2015). The re-release is planned to celebrate Mahesh Babu’s birthday.

3. Indra: Re-releasing on August 22, Indra is a 2002 action drama directed by B. Gopal, starring Chiranjeevi, Aarthi Agarwal, and Sonali Bendre. Known for its music by Mani Sharma, the film was a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film at the time and winning three Nandi Awards and two Filmfare Awards South. Indra was remade in Bengali as Dada (2005) and dubbed into Hindi as Indra: The Tiger.

4. Shiva: Shiva, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, is set to re-release on August 29. This 1989 crime action film, starring Nagarjuna and Amala, is recognised for its innovative technology and sound design. It was a commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film of its time and winning three Nandi Awards and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu. The film was remade in Hindi as Shiva (1990).

5. Mass: Mass is a 2004 masala film directed by Raghava Lawrence, starring Nagarjuna, Jyothika, and Charmy Kaur. It will be re-released on August 29. The movie features music by Devi Sri Prasad and was a major hit in Nagarjuna’s career. Mass was dubbed into Tamil as Veeran and Hindi as Meri Jung – One Man Army. It was also remade in Bangladeshi Bengali as Khomota in 2007.
