Tellapur residents urge action on dust pollution from construction activities

Hyderabad: Residents of Tellapur have raised concerns about the health and infrastructure issues resulting from ongoing construction activities in the area. The Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) has written a letter to the District Collector of Sangareddy, Telangana, urging authorities to address the situation.
The letter highlights the serious health risks posed by the dust, particularly cement dust, generated by large-scale construction. Residents report respiratory problems, including asthma, as a result of prolonged exposure to the dust.
In addition to health concerns, the letter points out the damage caused by the continuous movement of heavily loaded trucks. The trucks are severely impacting the local roads, making them more prone to deterioration and further contributing to dust pollution.
The residents are urging the authorities to enforce safety and environmental measures to minimize these issues. They also request that construction companies be held accountable for repairing the damaged roads.
TeNA President Eswaragari Ramana spoke to the Hyderabad Mail, stating that the ongoing construction on the Ring Road Extension has led to significant traffic congestion in Tellapur. This has made it difficult for the public to navigate the area, with only a small portion of a 100-foot road available for general use. The excessive movement of construction vehicles is also causing severe air pollution, leading to increased respiratory illnesses in the community.
He also mentioned that heavy trucks are further damaging the unfinished road. TeNA has urged authorities to set specific hours for the movement of large vehicles and expedite the completion of the road.
The Tellapur Neighborhood Association has called for immediate action to address these issues and ensure the community’s well-being.
On social media, the association posted, “@Collector_SRD garu, residents are facing serious health issues due to unchecked construction dust, causing respiratory problems. Damaged roads from heavy trucks worsen the situation. We urge authorities to enforce safety measures and repair the roads immediately!”
