Tellapur residents stage dharna after bad roads stop school bus service
Tellapur: Residents of Osman Nagar staged a dharna on Saturday, September 21, 2024, under the leadership of the Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) to demand better local roads, highlighting that school buses have stopped coming due to the poor condition of the roads.
The residents pointed out the deplorable state of Missing Link Road 152, which has been severely damaged by heavy construction vehicles, causing significant inconvenience to nearly 5,000 people living in various gated communities in the area. “The school bus is not coming because of the road’s condition,” said one resident.
Ramana Eshwaragari, President of Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA), spoke with the Hyderabad Mail, stating, “Missing Link Road 152, which connects Osman Nagar to the Wipro Compound wall in Vattinagulapally, has been completely destroyed due to the passage of 300 to 400 heavy trucks. This has worsened the road conditions.”
He added, “The Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) initiated these road works, which were sanctioned in 2021 under the previous government. However, the work has dragged on from 2021 to 2024 without completion. The poor condition of the roads is severely affecting over 5,000 residents and has made commuting nearly impossible.”
Ramana also noted that recent heavy rains have exacerbated the damage. “At least 300 to 400 heavy construction trucks are using this road, contributing to its further degradation as numerous construction projects are ongoing in our locality.”
During the protest, residents blocked the road and called on construction companies and local authorities to address their concerns. While construction companies assured residents that temporary repair work would begin within two days, local authorities have yet to respond to the community’s demands for a permanent solution.
Medak MP Raghunandan Rao spoke to the protesters over the phone, promising to take the issue to the attention of Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) authorities and the State Government. “We hope for immediate action on this pressing matter,” Ramana Eshwaragari said.
