Tellapur residents demand action as Osman Nagar Road remains in poor condition
Hyderabad: Tellapur residents have been experiencing severe traffic congestion for the past three years due to the encroachment of the main road connecting Gopanpally and Osman Nagar. This public road, which serves over 10,000 residents across various communities, such as BDL apartments, Tripura Meadows, Muppa Indraprastha, Radhey Sancta Homes, and NCC Urban, is in pathetic condition, making it increasingly difficult for citizens to navigate.
The Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) has raised concerns over the road’s condition, highlighting its impact on residents’ lives. School buses find it particularly challenging to navigate the congested road during peak hours, exacerbating the issue.
The TeNA has brought the matter to the attention of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner, urging the construction of the Tellapur- Osman Nagar Road as per the approved HMDA Master Plan.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Ramana Eshwaragari, President of the Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA), highlighted the safety concerns of the community. The Tellapur-Gopanpally Road, severely damaged by illegally transported heavy water tankers, has become a hotspot for accidents, putting residents at risk. The absence of streetlights further exacerbates the situation, making the area vulnerable to crime.
He mentioned that, according to the HMDA Master Plan, the Tellapur-Osman Nagar Road is supposed to be 60 feet wide. However, the road measures only 10-15 feet due to illegal encroachments and randomly placed electric poles. HMDA has been approving constructions assuming the road is 60 feet wide, which has led to ongoing construction activities exacerbating the problem. Despite numerous appeals to authorities, no results have been in addressing this issue.
The Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) community is calling for several actions to be taken. These include widening the Tellapur- Osman Nagar Road to 60 feet following the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Master Plan, removing all road encroachments, and halting construction until the road infrastructure is improved and developed. The Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) highlights the need for a high-quality road that can handle the growing traffic and meet the community’s long-term needs.
