Tellapur residents face decade-long wait as key radial road remains incomplete

HYDERABAD: A decade after work began, the 7.7 km radial road in Tellapur remains incomplete, leaving nearly 80,000 residents grappling with poor connectivity and unsafe travel conditions.
The stretch serves as a key link to the Financial District, Lingampally railway station and the Outer Ring Road (ORR). However, potholes, gravel and uneven surfaces have slowed commutes and increased travel time, as reported by TOI.
Residents said the situation is particularly concerning given the high property taxes in the area. Despite rapid urban growth, infrastructure development has lagged behind, they added.
According to the Tellapur Neighbourhood Association, the road is in “extremely poor condition”, with damaged sections posing safety risks. The association recently wrote to the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation highlighting frequent accidents, vehicle damage and commuter inconvenience.
“Every day feels like an off-road drive. The roads are full of potholes and loose gravel, and it becomes impossible to walk or drive in the rain. Travel time has nearly doubled. It now takes over 30 minutes to reach the Financial District, which should ideally take 15–20 minutes,” said M Venkat, a resident.
Parents have also raised concerns over children’s safety. “We are constantly worried, especially when heavy vehicles use the same routes,” said Deepthi Reddy.
Real estate growth outpaces infrastructure development
Residents said thousands of apartments have come up in the last decade, but basic connectivity remains inadequate. They added that construction approvals were granted without ensuring supporting infrastructure.
Officials said around 50% of the radial road work has been completed so far. Delays have been attributed to funding constraints and land acquisition issues.
“The project is set for a reset, with the remaining works being handed over to the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation,” an official from the Roads & Buildings department said.
