Lack of public transport in Tellapur leaves over 30,000 families stranded
Hyderabad: Residents of Tellapur and surrounding areas are demanding the resumption of city bus service route number 116/220K, which runs from CBS to Kollur via Tellapur. The city bus is the only public transport option for residents to travel to other parts of the city. The lack of public transport has caused significant inconvenience for residents.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Ramana Eshwaragari, the President of the Tellapur Neighborhood Association, highlighted the difficulties faced by residents. He said, “More than 3,000 immigrant labor families reside in and around Tellapur. There is no public transport service, neither railways nor bus, for our area. Ordinary people can’t travel to other places without public transport. In total, 30,000 families in Tellapur are affected..”
Ramana Eshwaragari further said, “Not everyone owns a vehicle. Many gated communities in the area are also facing trouble commuting long distances. The bus service started in December 2023 with a promised frequency of five to six trips daily. However, it was abruptly discontinued in May 2024, causing immense hardship for residents who rely on public transport. We are unaware of the reason behind the service stoppage.”
Ramana Eshwaragari informed that he has written a letter to Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Goud, requesting his intervention. He urged the Minister to consider the issue serious and urgent and to restart bus services to alleviate the problem.
The Tellapur Neighborhood Association also took to the social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, to voice their concerns. They tagged the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Goud, and the Managing Director of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, VC Sajjanar. Their post read, “Please restart city bus services on route 116/220K (CBS to Kollur via Tellapur). The lack of public transport in Tellapur is causing significant inconvenience to residents.”
