Tellapur’s 15,000 families still await drinking water connection

Tellapur: Residents of Tellapur, home to over 15,000 families in more than 40 gated communities, are raising serious concerns about the lack of basic infrastructure. Despite the area being one of the wealthiest municipalities, residents are facing major basic issues such as unreliable drinking water supply, frequent power outages, inadequate drainage systems, and lack of public transportation.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Ramana Eshwaragari, President of the Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA), said that one of the major issues in the area is the lack of a proper drinking water connection. “There are over 40 gated communities in and around Tellapur and Kollur, but except for a couple of them, more than 98% of the communities do not have a drinking water connection. Construction of a water tank started in November 2022, and while the land was allocated and work began, it remains incomplete even in 2024. More than two years have passed, and we still do not know when it will be finished,” Ramana Eshwaragari explained. He highlighted that residents in these communities are still waiting for a reliable water supply.
Another issue highlighted by Eshwaragari is the lack of an electrical substation. “The land for the new substation was allocated two years ago, but there has been no progress since. The existing substation is located too far away, leading to frequent power outages and low voltage. Officials have acknowledged the need for a new substation, but the delays persist,” he said.
In addition to water and power issues, Tellapur also suffers from an inadequate drainage system. “There is no proper drainage infrastructure in Tellapur. The municipality has not laid any drainage lines, resulting in sewage water flowing onto the roads. This is a health hazard and a major inconvenience for the residents,” Ramana added.
Transportation woes also continue to affect Tellapur. Ramana Eshwaragari pointed out that the area previously had bus services, but these were cancelled in March 2024. “I raised the issue on social media, and one official responded that the service was cancelled due to low traffic. However, public transportation would help reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Many of the residents are IT employees, and reliable bus services could make commuting to nearby tech hubs like Mindspace much easier. We need more trips and buses in good condition,” he said.
Despite these ongoing issues, residents continue to pay taxes on time, yet basic services remain inadequate.
