Telangana’s crime graph sees a 22 percent spike in 2024

Hyderabad: Telangana state recorded a 22 percent surge in the number of crimes in 2024, according to the Telangana State Police Annual Report 2024. Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender, along with senior police officials, officially released the Annual Report for 2024 on Sunday.
The state recorded 1,69,477 cases in 2024, compared to 1,38,312 cases in the previous year, resulting in a 22.53 percent increase in the crime rate. During this period, the state witnessed a 43.33 percent spike in cybercrimes, along with a similar increase in conventional crimes such as robbery, burglary, murder, rape, cheating, and other offences.
Addressing an annual press meet at the headquarters in Lakdikapul, Hyderabad on Sunday, the Telangana DGP Dr Jitender informed that no major Maoist-related operations were carried out in the state.
“Two people were killed in an incident after being accused of being police informants. The situation was brought under control by the police’s swift response, ” the DGP said.
The state police chief further said the state did not witness any major communal violence barring a few skirmishes in Jainoor, Vikarabad and a couple more places.
Responding to recent cases in which police personnel have ended their lives owing to โwork pressureโ, the DGP stated that, โWe should not generalize the issue. He said they may have taken the step due to various reasons like personal, family or financial problems. We have an internal mechanism in place to help the affected staff.โ

Meanwhile, a head constable Sai Kumar attached with the Kulcharam police station in Medak took his own life by hanging from a tree on the premises of the police station. Kumarโs body has been shifted to the area government hospital for postmortem. It is immediately not clear why the 52-year-old policeman took the extreme step.
