Telangana Women Safety Wing cracks decade-old missing case, locates boy in UP

Hyderabad: The Women Safety Wing has traced three long-pending missing cases, tracing individuals who disappeared years ago.

The notable case involved Mohd Khaleel Ghori, a boy who went missing in 2014 at age 12. After a decade-long search, the team traced him to Uttar Pradesh. Investigation revealed he was taken to a Child Care Institution at Kanpur Railway Station and adopted by a government employee. His name was changed to Abinav Singh, and he is now 22 years.

According to the missing complaint, the boy left home with just his Aadhar card. Despite local police efforts, he couldn’t be traced. Later, the case was transferred to AHTU, CID, TG. The Women Safety Wing technical team collected all theboy’s digital identities using open-source and police investigation tools.

“Investigation revealed that his Digital Identity was changed through the missing boy’s Aadhar card and was updated with a new mobile number. Based on this lead, the team verified the mobile number details and identified it was related to a Retd. Govt. Employee of Kanpur at Prayagraj State (UP). After verifying all details, it was found that at 12 yrs the boy went to UP by train and at Kanpur Railway station he was taken to Child Care Institution by Railway Police Kanpur until2022. From there he was adopted by Government Employee Sanehi Singh. The boy’s name was changed to Abinav Singh. Now he’s 22 yrs. The special investigation team was sent to Kanpur of UP and he was traced after 10 years in Uttar Pradesh,” read the statement released by the Telangana police.

Three long-pending missing persons cases solved

In a second case, a girl named Ganga alias Gangamani, who disappeared from Shanthi Sadan Home in Nacharam in 2015, was located in Nizamabad. The investigation team tracked her through her occupation as a balloon seller. She was found living with her husband and two children, having been settled in Nizamabad for four years.

The third case involved two minors who went missing from Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad in 2017. The team located them in Bangalore, Karnataka. The girl is now 17 years old, and the boy is 15.

Revealing the statistics about missing cases in Telangana,Shikha Goel said, “As of November 2024, Telangana reported 22,780 missing cases, with 19,191 cases already traced. The state’s tracing percentage is 84.25%, significantly higher than the national average of 51.1%. The Women Safety Wing has focused on long-pending cases, successfully tracing 27 such instances.”

The investigation teams from the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) and SHE Cyber Lab teams used advanced techniques, including digital identity tracking and open-source investigation tools.
