Telangana will not surrender a single drop of Krishna river water: Uttam Kumar Reddy

HYDERABAD: Telangana will not surrender “a single drop” of its share of water from the Krishna river, irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said, asserting that the state would fully utilise its rightful allocation.
He said the government was prepared to fight a legal battle to safeguard irrigation requirements, particularly for the erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts.
Legal fight to protect irrigation interests
“Telangana will fully utilise its rightful share of Krishna waters. We will fight legally to protect the irrigation needs of erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
The minister said irrigation needs of farmers in these regions would remain a priority for the state government.
Cultivation rises in Krishna basin
Uttam Kumar Reddy said cultivation in the Krishna basin had increased significantly after the Congress government assumed power in the state.
He attributed the rise in cultivated area to irrigation initiatives undertaken by the government in the basin region.
