HYDERABAD: The state tourism department plans to introduce a WhatsApp-based ticket booking facility to simplify access to tourism services.

Tourists will be able to book tickets directly from their mobile phones by sending a “Hi” message to the official WhatsApp number issued by the department. The service will support both Telugu and English languages.

Users can choose from options such as hotel bookings, boating, bus packages and entry tickets. By entering details such as tourist location, date and number of visitors, tickets can be booked instantly.

Mobile app to provide complete tourism information

The government is also developing a dedicated mobile application to provide details of tourist destinations, waterfalls, accommodation availability in hotels and package timings.

Officials said tourists can plan their trips from anywhere using the app, improving transparency and access to services.

Partnership and rollout plans

The department is working with Kotak Mahindra Bank to enable digital payment services. Minister Jupally Krishna Rao directed officials to expedite the rollout, following which Tourism Managing Director Gautami accelerated the process.

Cyber security measures planned

Officials said advanced systems will be deployed to protect users during digital transactions and prevent cyber fraud. Services will be provided only through verified official accounts.

Model inspired by other states

Some states have already implemented similar services. Kerala operates a WhatsApp chatbot named ‘Maya’, which provides tourism information, weather updates and e-ticketing services round the clock.

On similar lines, Telangana aims to launch the service soon. Officials said the initiative will improve tourist experience and strengthen the state’s tourism sector.
