Telangana braces for storms, severe heatwave

HYDERABAD: Isolated thunderstorms are likely in parts of south Telangana, including Hyderabad, during the evening and night of May 28, 2026, while severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue across north and east Telangana.
According to the forecast, storm activity is likely in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhongir districts. Hyderabad may witness isolated thunderstorms during the evening to night hours, though rainfall coverage is expected to remain limited to around 0–25% of areas.
Short-duration rainfall currently affecting Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts is expected to weaken soon, followed by dry weather conditions.
Most other districts in Telangana are likely to remain dry through the day.
Severe heatwave conditions to continue
Severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist in north and east Telangana districts, with maximum temperatures likely to range between 43°C and 45°C.
Hyderabad is also expected to witness high daytime temperatures, with mercury levels forecast between 40°C and 42°C.
Weather experts advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated amid the continuing heatwave conditions.
