HYDERABAD: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated steps to make two more airports in Telangana operational for passenger services within two years.

AAI has started the process to revive the Mamnoor airport in Warangal. The state government has already handed over 949.14 acres for the project. AAI has invited bids from consultancy firms for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The bidding process opened on September 30 and will close on October 14. Once the report is ready, AAI will begin restoration work, aiming to complete it in two years.

Air Force airport in Adilabad to open for civilians

In Adilabad, AAI is preparing to convert the Indian Air Force (IAF) airport for passenger operations. At present, the airstrip is used only for IAF aircraft. With the defence authorities giving their consent, AAI has started groundwork for developing it into a full-fledged civilian airport. The state government has assured land support for the project.

Four more airports planned in Telangana

AAI has also decided to set up new airports in Kothagudem, Ramagundam, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar. However, officials indicated that these projects would take longer to materialise.
