RTA to implement centralised system to expedite issuing of RC and driver’s license

Hyderabad: To speed up the issuing of vehicle registration certificates (RCs) and driver’s licenses, the Transport Department of Telangana has decided to implement a centralised system in the state.
Nearly 62 RTO offices across the state process and issue over 10,000 RCs and driving licenses daily, according to official sources. The officials blame the technical glitches for the delay in granting RCs and driver’s licenses to the people.
The decision comes after a team of officials led by Joint Transport Commissioner (JTC) Chandrashekhar Goud visited Maharashtra to study various best practices and policies being followed by their transport department.
Following the visit, a detailed report was submitted to the state government and it has approved the transport department’s proposal to modify its policy and streamline the process.
Previously, the Transport department of Maharashtra would issue RCs and driving licenses from RTO offices. However, the process was marred with allegations of corruption by the middlemen and agents.
To root out the corruption and expedite the process, the department introduced the centralised system which enabled the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials to issue between 30,000 to 35,000 RCs and driving licenses daily.
The department has set up centralised centres at three RTO offices in Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad), and Nagpur. The RCs and driver’s licenses are both printed and issued from these centres. However, Telangana’s transport authority has decided to print the documents at Hyderabad centre only.
