Telangana Expands Overseas Jobs Push with Skills, Passports and Global Placements
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) to expand its role beyond organising job fairs. He wants the agency to provide skill training, passport facilitation and overseas employment support for workers seeking jobs abroad.
During a review meeting of the Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department with Minister Vivek Venkatswamy and senior officials, the Chief Minister asked TOMCOM to sign agreements with foreign manpower companies. He said these partnerships should ensure safe employment opportunities and provide support to workers who face problems overseas.
Focus on migrant workers from North Telangana
Revanth Reddy said many workers from North Telangana migrate to Middle Eastern countries for employment and often fall victim to fraudulent recruitment agents.
He directed officials to identify agents sending workers abroad and maintain a database of every worker they recruit. He also announced that the government will appoint a former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer as TOMCOM‘s Chief Executive Officer to strengthen overseas employment initiatives.
The Chief Minister also asked officials to provide light motor vehicle (LMV) and heavy motor vehicle (HMV) driving training for candidates planning to work overseas.
Skill development to meet global demand
Revanth Reddy directed officials to establish a research and innovation centre at Young India Skill University. He also proposed creating a dedicated department to teach foreign languages, including German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Russian.
He suggested recruiting teachers from those countries along with qualified local faculty to improve language training.
The Chief Minister also asked officials to study the feasibility of offering scholarships for candidates training for blue-collar jobs. He said the scheme could follow the model of overseas scholarships provided to students pursuing higher education abroad.
He directed officials to facilitate internships in leading companies for students of government engineering colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) and polytechnic colleges. He said students should be able to continue their education while gaining industry experience and earning stipends.
Revanth Reddy also proposed introducing courses on electric vehicle (EV) servicing and drone technology in ATCs, citing rising demand for skilled workers in both sectors.
Highlighting opportunities in healthcare, the Chief Minister said demand for nurses continues to grow in India and overseas, especially for home nursing services in countries with ageing populations. He added that the government is approving more nursing colleges to meet the increasing demand.
