Telangana tiger reserves reopen for tourists from October 1

Telangana Tiger Reserves

HYDERABAD: Tiger reserves, which remained closed to tourists during the monsoon, are preparing to welcome nature lovers from October 1.

Telangana has the Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) and Kawal Tiger Reserve (KTR), while Andhra Pradesh has the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR). Forest departments are preparing safari vehicles and guides to take tourists into the forests and help them spot wildlife.

At ATR, the tiger population has risen from 26 in the past to 42, according to the source copy. The safari begins at Mannanur and goes up to the Farhabad viewpoint.

Tourists can also visit Shikar Ghar, where the Nizam rulers stayed during hunting trips, and see Chenchu homes. The Farhabad viewpoint, located at an elevation of 914 metres, offers views of the Rusulacheruvu surroundings.

Kawal offers forests, grasslands and wildlife

Kawal’s deciduous forests, grasslands, water bodies and location in the Godavari basin give it a distinct landscape.

Apart from tigers, visitors can spot leopards, gaur, sambar, nilgai, spotted deer, chousingha and sloth bears. Telangana Tourism also lists leopards, deer and other wildlife among the species found in the reserve.

Nekkanti Jungle Ride covers NSTR

In the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, Tummalabailu and the Ishtakameshwari Temple area are among the key safari points.

The Nekkanti Jungle Ride, which begins near the Srisailam Shikharam area, takes visitors through NSTR for about two-and-a-half hours. The official NSTR website lists the total ride time as 2 hours 30 minutes.
