Telangana thunderstorms yellow alert

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for Telangana, forecasting light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over the next four days. The department has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated locations across the state.

Areas likely to experience these conditions include Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagital, Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool, and Narayanpet districts.

Hyderabad is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall, with precipitation levels ranging from 15.6 to 64.4 mm. The city is forecasted to see moderate rains over the next four days.

The IMD has highlighted potential impacts during the rainfall, including water pooling on roads and low-lying areas, traffic congestion, wet and slippery roads, and the risk of tree and electric pole falls. There may also be temporary electricity and water disruptions, as well as drainage clogging. Residents are advised to stay safe and exercise caution during this period.

In a recent tweet on August 18, 2024, Telangana Weatherman @balaji25_t reported that severe thunderstorms have been affecting South Hyderabad, particularly areas like Rajendranagar, Aramghar, and Budvel, with further impacts expected in Hayathnagar, Meerpet, Nadergul, and surrounding areas. He also noted that storms would extend to Manikonda, Mehidipatnam, Jubilee Hills, and other locations in the city by early afternoon.
