“Adilabad records lowest temperature as Telangana nights turn colder in November”

HYDERABAD: Telangana has started to feel the onset of winter, with night temperatures dropping sharply across several districts in the first week of November. According to data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Adilabad recorded the state’s lowest average minimum temperature at 17.4°C, followed by Kumaram Bheem (18.7°C), Sangareddy (18.3°C), Rajanna Sircilla (18.8°C) and Medak (18.2°C).

Cold wave likely in northern Telangana

Forecasts suggest a further dip over the weekend, with Adilabad expected to touch 11.2°C, Kumaram Bheem 9.4°C, and Mancherial 9.9°C — all falling under the “cold wave watch” zone. Most central and northern districts are likely to record night temperatures between 11°C and 14°C, while southern parts including Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, and Khammam may hover between 13°C and 15°C.

Hyderabad sees early signs of winter

In the capital, Hyderabad recorded a minimum of 21.5°C, indicating cooler nights ahead. Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, Serilingampally emerged as the coolest zone at 17.4°C, while Jubilee Hills and Khairatabad were warmer at 20.5°C. Suburban areas such as Ramachandrapuram, Kukatpally, and LB Nagar are forecast to see a further dip to 13–14°C in the next few days.

Clear skies, dry winds driving the trend

Meteorologist K. S. Sridhar attributed the cooling to clear skies and dry northwesterly winds. “Clear skies and dry winds from the north are aiding the temperature drop. The chill is expected to intensify until mid-November,” said Sridhar. He added that lingering atmospheric moisture from this year’s extended rains is slowing down the full onset of winter. “The prolonged monsoon has left the ground and lower atmosphere unusually moist, which is delaying sharp cooling. Once the residual moisture fades, we can expect a more pronounced drop in night temperatures,” he said.

Northern Telangana to remain coldest

India Meteorological Department (IMD) data indicates that by late November, minimum temperatures across Telangana will range between 15°C and 20°C, occasionally dipping below 15°C under clear skies. “Districts such as Adilabad, Medak, Kamareddy, and Nizamabad will remain the coldest due to clearer skies, stronger winds, and open terrain,” Sridhar said.

Winter outlook and global trends

While global models hinted at possible La Niña development later this year, IMD has yet to confirm any direct impact on Telangana’s winter. The peak winter phase is expected between the third week of December and the third week of January, when fog and mist become frequent. Telangana largely stays outside the northeast monsoon influence. “Any November–December rainfall over Telangana depends on cyclonic systems along the Andhra coast,” Sridhar added.

Cooling trend to continue

IMD forecasts suggest normal temperature patterns through next week, with a clearer and colder phase expected by late November as winds strengthen and humidity reduces.
