HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has suspended senior Indian Administrative Service officer Arvind Kumar in connection with the Formula E race case, as the probe gathers pace.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which is investigating alleged irregularities in the conduct of the Formula E race in Hyderabad, recently obtained sanction from the Centre to prosecute him. The sanction is mandatory to initiate prosecution against a serving All India Service officer.

Following this development, the state government initiated departmental disciplinary proceedings and placed Arvind Kumar under suspension, sources said. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has signed the relevant file.

Sanctions granted in connected cases

In the same case, the Governor had earlier granted sanction to prosecute former minister K T Rama Rao. The state Chief Secretary had also approved prosecution against former chief engineer B L N Reddy. Reddy has since retired from service.

The Formula E race was held in Hyderabad as part of an international electric car racing series. Allegations in the case relate to decisions taken in connection with the event’s organisation and financial approvals. The ACB is examining the role of officials and others involved.

Officials said the investigation is continuing and further action will be taken based on the findings.
