Thanuja and Deekshita steal the spotlight at Telangana sailing c’ship

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s Thanuja Kameshwar and Deekshita Komaravelly showcased exceptional skill and determination during the 8th Telangana State Sailing Championship held at the picturesque Hussain Sagar in the city on Sunday.
Despite the inclement weather, Thanuja dominated the sailing competition by winning a hat-trick of gold medals while her fellow competitor Deekshita demonstrated her expertise in navigating the strong winds and won four medals in all – one gold, two silver and a bronze.
The state-level sailing championship began on Thursday, December 26, 2024. The event is being organised by the Telangana Sailing Association and hosted by the Yacht Club of Hyderabad at Hussain Sagar. A total of 131 entries from 15 districts are competing across six categories. This year, six sailors from Haryana are also participating in the event.
The sailing domain of Hyderabad is dominated by Govardhan Pallara and Rizwan Mohammad in the boys’ category while sisters Lahiri and Deekshitha Komaravelly are aiming for gold in the Sub-Junior category.
Top ranking sailors Deekshita and Govardhan will get elevated to the level of Junior Optimist Class next year. The duo are practicing and training for the Asian Games trials. Meanwhile, Manya Reddy and Shravan Kathrawath, the top seed sailors among girls and boys, respectively in the Junior category are fixed on defending their spots in the championship.
