Concerns rise over Telangana SSC exams coinciding with Ramadan’s key days

Hyderabad: Citizens have raised concerns over the clash between the Telangana State Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams and the holy month of Ramadan. The exams, scheduled for March 2025, overlap with key religious events during the last ten days of Ramadan, prompting calls for the state government to reconsider the timetable.
Mubashir Khurram, a social media user, urged the Telangana Chief Minister and the Education Department to review the exam schedule. He posted, “I request @TelanganaCMO & @TelanganaCS kindly review the #SSC timetable & make changes. The exams are set to begin during the last ten days of #Ramadan 2025, coinciding with sacred events like #ShabeQadar & #JumatulVida. The current schedule falls on both of these important days. Hope you will look into this issue. @TSEduDept.”

Another citizen, Mohd. A. Khaleel, also called for action, saying, “An appeal to @Revanth_Reddy ji to intervene and ask officials to immediately revise the timetable. How can the Board of Secondary Education overlook this issue?”

Class X student Mohammed shared his concerns while speaking with Hyderabad Mail. “The SSC exams are scheduled during Ramadan, and we should fast from dawn to sunset, which makes studying particularly challenging,” he said. “The exam dates fall on significant days of Ramadan when prayers, especially during the last ten days, are especially important. Shab-e-Qadar and I’tikaf are vital religious observances for us.”
According to the current SSC exam timetable, several important papers are scheduled during the final days of Ramadan, including the 27th night, which is Shab-e-Qadar, and Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims as a time for fasting, prayer, and reflection. The last ten days of the month are particularly significant, marked by Shab-e-Qadar, which is believed to be the night when the Quran was revealed, and I’tikaf, a period of intense prayer and spiritual focus.
Given the timing of the exams, many students and parents have urged the Telangana government to adjust the schedule so that the exams do not coincide with key religious observances.
