Telangana Government splits MA&UD department into two separate wings

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has restructured the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department, splitting it into two separate departments for more focused governance. The move was formalized through G.O. Ms. No. 107, issued by the General Administration (AR&T) Department.
The two new departments are the Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department and the Municipal Administration Department. This reorganization is intended to streamline the administration of urban areas within and beyond Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department will be responsible for:
• Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA)
• Town and Country Planning
• All municipal corporations and municipalities within ORR limits, including GHMC
• Urban utilities within HMDA limits, including HMWS&SB, MRDCL, HMRL, HRDCL, HGCL, FCDA, and HYDRAA
• Public Health Engineering within ORR limits, along with cadre control
• Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) and its Appellate Tribunal
The Municipal Administration Department will oversee:
• All municipalities and municipal corporations located outside ORR limits
• Public Health Engineering outside ORR limits
• Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC)
• National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM)
• Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA)
• Municipal Services cadre control
The government stated that this reorganization was undertaken “in the exigency of administration.”
