Over 48 lakh voters marked for deletion in Telangana roll revision

Sir Deletion

HYDERABAD: With the countdown beginning for completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), election authorities have identified 48.3 lakh electors for deletion from Telangana’s voter rolls, accounting for 14.2% of the state’s 3.38 crore electorate.

The number could increase further, as nearly 29.5 lakh enumeration forms are yet to be digitised.

Urban districts account for bulk of uncollectable forms

The exercise has revealed a significant concentration of uncollectable enumeration forms in Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts, raising the possibility of large-scale deletions in the state’s urban belt.

All 48.3 lakh electors identified for deletion fall under the category of uncollectable enumeration forms.

The largest segment comprises 28.7 lakh electors, or 8.5% of the total electorate, who were found to have permanently shifted from their registered addresses.

Another 8.6 lakh electors were reported dead, while around 4.8 lakh were classified as absent or untraceable. Nearly 5.8 lakh voters were identified as duplicate entries or as persons already enrolled elsewhere.

ECI extends Telangana SIR exercise till August 10

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday extended the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana for the second time, giving officials another seven days to complete house-to-house enumeration, collection of forms and digitisation.

The deadline for the field exercise, which had earlier been extended to August 3, has now been pushed to August 10. Consequently, the draft electoral rolls, earlier scheduled for publication on August 10, will now be released on August 17.

Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy said the revised schedule gives Booth Level Officers (BLOs) time until August 10 to complete house-to-house visits and the related enumeration work.
