Telangana voter roll revision may remove 40 lakh names

HYDERABAD: Around 40 lakh voter records in Telangana are likely to be deleted under the “uncollectable” category as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, according to information available.

Election officials are stated to have reported that 100% of enumeration forms had been distributed across the state. However, a section of these forms could not be collected and has therefore been classified as “uncollectable”, making the corresponding voter records liable for deletion.

A major political party is learnt to have raised strong objections before the Election Commission on Thursday. The party questioned how voter names could be marked for deletion under the “uncollectable” category even though the deadline for completing the digitisation of enumeration forms is August 3.

According to officials, 2,59,50,506 enumeration forms, accounting for 76.72% of the state’s total 3,38,26,448 voters, had been digitised as of 6 pm on Thursday.

Concerns over deletion under multiple categories

The report further states that election officials are removing voters classified under the Absent, Shifted and Dead (ASD) category. In some areas, the proportion of such cases is reported to have crossed 20%.
