Telangana SHE teams book over 6,000 cases, most for eve teasing and misbehaviour
Hyderabad: In the last six months, SHE teams booked as many as 6129 cases against miscreants who are harassing women throughout the Telangana state revealed in the half yearly review meeting of SHE teams spearheaded by Director General(DG), Women Safety Wing, Shikha Goel on Thursday.
According to the data revealed by Women safety wing of Telangana of the 6129 cases booked police have issued FIRs in 4449 cases and 2314 petty cases were booked. Further 1085 miscreats are counselled and 358 complaints are under process.
Most of the cases are teasing and misbehaviour against women and girls (2661) followed by Harassment over phone (986), Stalking (604), Touching inappropriately (500), harassing through social media (432) and further 710 complaints of others.
Further breakup of sources of complaints revealed most of the cases where SHE teams caught the miscreants red handedly (3366), followed by SHE teams receiving complaints through social media- Whatsapp and Facebook (1216), direct complaints (1138) and Dial 100 (15).
Shikha Goel, DG, Women Safety Wing(WSW), held the half yearly review for all the SHE TEAMS functioning in Telangana on Thursday.The Meeting was attended by officers from Women Safety Wing, tri-Commissionerate, and over 300 officers and staff from 31 district Police units.
While addressing the officers, DG-WSW Shikha Goel said, “A lot of emphasis on the ‘strong safety perception’ SHE teams have created so far. She asked the officers to launch intensive awareness campaigns and pay special attention to hot spots”.
During the review, Shikha Goel, said, “SHE teams have achieved a high rate of success in reducing harassment and improving women’s safety. Their achievements include increased reporting of cases, successful interventions in harassment incidents, and raising public awareness. The use of technology, undercover operations, and targeted interventions in hotspots have contributed significantly to their success. Regular monitoring and impact analysis ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness in their operations.”
As of now, there are 331 SHE Teams operating across Telangana. These teams focus on monitoring and addressing incidents of harassment and abuse in public places through proactive measures and technology integration. They operate covertly in hotspots, gather evidence, and take necessary actions, including filing FIRs and conducting counselling sessions.
