Telangana families show poor response to self-enumeration

HYDERABAD: Public participation in the self-enumeration process for the national Census remained low in Telangana, with fewer than 3% of families registering their details online before the deadline ending on Sunday.
Officials said only 3.70 lakh families had completed self-enumeration till May 9, despite expectations that at least 10% of households in the state would participate voluntarily. Telangana’s estimated population is over 3.60 crore, with around 1.30 crore families.
IT workforce fails to boost online registrations
The Centre’s Census department expressed surprise over the low participation from Hyderabad’s urban regions, particularly in Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts, where a large section of Telangana’s nearly 10 lakh information technology employees work.
Only around 76,000 families from the two districts registered online. Medchal recorded the highest number with 42,982 registrations, followed by Hyderabad district with 39,480 and Ranga Reddy with 33,689.
At the lower end, Mulugu recorded only 1,556 registrations, while Narayanpet, Nagarkurnool, Medak and Vikarabad also reported poor participation.
Officials said the voluntary nature of the process may have led many residents to treat it casually.
Enumerators to begin door-to-door survey from Monday
Census enumerators will begin visiting households from May 11 to June 9 to physically collect information on housing facilities and village, mandal and district details.
Officials said each household survey could take between one and two hours. If more families complete self-enumeration online, the time required for field verification and submission would reduce significantly.
Authorities appealed to residents to complete the process voluntarily before midnight on Sunday through the official website, se.census.gov.in.
