Sarpanch hopefuls promise to end monkey menace in villages

HANUMAKONDA: Three sarpanch contestants in different Telangana villages are campaigning on the promise of ending the persistent monkey menace.
Monkey attacks drive election messaging
Residents of Nerella in Kamalapur mandal have repeatedly complained of rising monkey attacks. Sarpanch candidate Jetty Nagalakshmi turned the issue into a campaign theme on Wednesday. She made two of her supporters dress as bears while she moved through the village, urging voters to back her.
Villages turn to catchers and local fixes
In Vennampalli of Saidapur mandal in Karimnagar district, candidate Chiranjeevi brought professional monkey catchers to the village. The group has begun trapping and relocating the animals, his team said during campaigning.
Mancherial candidate uses civet in campaign
In Dandepalli of Mancherial district, sarpanch aspirant Ajmeera Rajeshwar adopted a different approach. After residents held placards saying they would vote only for someone who could resolve the monkey problem, he brought a civet into the village and showcased it in a cage while appealing for support.
Villagers across the three locations say they are willing to back only those candidates who can free their communities from the monkey menace.
