Hyderabad policing revamped under Telangana Rising 2047 plan

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has reorganised policing in the Hyderabad metropolitan region, creating four Police Commissionerates and ordering transfers and postings of senior Indian Police Service officers.
The overhaul follows the expansion of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits and the creation of the Future City, officials said. The changes were notified through a government order issued on Monday, with formal proceedings released by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao.
Part of Telangana Rising 2047 vision
Officials said the reorganisation is aligned with the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document, unveiled at the Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 9. The vision sets a roadmap for achieving a $3 trillion economy by 2047 through region-specific development strategies.
Under the plan, the State has been divided into the Core Urban Region, PURE and RARE. As part of this exercise, 27 municipalities within the Outer Ring Road were merged into the GHMC, which was reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles and 300 wards. Other departments, including the police, are being restructured on similar lines.
Four commissionerates after overhaul
Policing in the Hyderabad region will now be handled by four commissionerates: the Hyderabad Police, the reorganised Cyberabad Police, the newly carved Malkajgiri Police, and the newly created Future City Police.
Key locations such as the State Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport and Budvel High Court have been placed under the Hyderabad Commissionerate. The Cyberabad Commissionerate will oversee major IT and industrial hubs including Gachibowli, the Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, Raidurg, Patancheru, Genome Valley, Ramachandrapuram and Ameenpur.
The Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised to form the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, covering areas such as Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur and Kompally. As part of the changes, Yadadri–Bhongir district has been removed from the commissionerate system and restored as an independent district police unit headed by a Superintendent of Police.
Senior IPS officers transferred
The government also ordered transfers and postings of senior officers. G. Sudheer Babu, formerly Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, has been appointed the first Commissioner of Police, Future City. Avinash Mohanthy, earlier Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri.
M. Ramesh, who was Inspector General of Police (Provisioning and Logistics), has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad. Akshansh Yadav has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Yadadri–Bhongir district. V. C. Sajjanar will continue as Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad.
Officials said the reorganisation would strengthen law and order, improve public service delivery and enhance crime control across the expanding urban region.
