Telangana to rename Raj Bhavan as Lok Bhavan
HYDERABAD: Telangana has decided to rename Raj Bhavan as Lok Bhavan following a directive from the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) to drop terms linked to the colonial era.
Officials said the decision was taken after the state government received formal communication from the MHA advising all states to replace colonial-era nomenclature in key institutions. The order to adopt the new name will come into effect after the completion of mandatory administrative procedures, including updating signage, stationery and official communication.
A senior official said the renaming exercise is intended to bring uniformity among constitutional buildings across states and to reflect “people-centric governance”. The official added that the change applies only to the name and does not alter the structure or functioning of the governor’s office.
Further notifications are expected from the state’s general administration department outlining the transition timeline.
