Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast across Telangana districts, IMD weather warning

HYDERABAD:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Telangana for the next three days, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in all districts.

Low pressure over Vidarbha influences Telangana

A low-pressure area that formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal has moved inland and is now centred over north Telangana and adjoining Vidarbha. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level and tilts southwards with height. It is likely to move further northwest, weaken gradually, and become a cyclonic circulation over central India.

A trough that extended from the Bay of Bengal to Maharashtra yesterday is now stretching from Vidarbha across north interior Karnataka to the Maharashtra coast.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has begun withdrawing three days earlier than normal from parts of Rajasthan. The withdrawal line currently passes through Sriganganagar, Nagaur, Jodhpur, and Barmer. Over the next two to three days, conditions will become favourable for withdrawal from more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat.

Rain forecast for all districts

The IMD said light to moderate rain is likely at many places across the state till September 16.

“Isolated heavy rain is very likely in some districts today and tomorrow. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are expected across all districts today, tomorrow, and the day after,” the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre said in a statement.

Weather warning issued

A watch alert has been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in all 33 districts including Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Sangareddy.

The warning is valid from 1:02 pm on September 14 till 8:30 am on September 15. Residents have been advised to follow the safety guidelines issued by the State Disaster Management Authority.
