Telangana To Face Private Colleges’ Strike Over Fee Dues From Tomorrow

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Private Higher Education Institutions has accused the state government of trying to intimidate college managements by ordering a vigilance inquiry into private colleges.

Speaking to reporters after a federation meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday, chairman N. Ramesh, treasurer Kodali Krishna Rao and vice-chairman Aljapur Srinivas said: “When we demand our pending fee reimbursement dues, the government orders an inquiry. It is nothing but an attempt to threaten college managements,” they said, urging the state to drop such measures.

Warns of indefinite shutdown if ₹900 crore dues not cleared

They warned that if the government failed to release ₹900 crore in pending tuition fee reimbursements by Sunday, colleges across the state would go on an indefinite strike from November 3. The federation announced it would hold a meeting with college staff on November 6 and organise a student protest in Hyderabad on November 10 or 11.

Following that, they said, they would lay siege to the houses of MLAs, ministers and MPs. The managements demanded the immediate release of ₹5,000 crore out of the ₹10,000 crore total dues, with the remaining to be cleared by March next year. They also appealed to universities to postpone all examinations scheduled during the strike.
