Telangana Prisons Department Denies Chanchalguda Jail Bribe Allegations

Chanchalguda Jail Allegations Denied

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Prisons Department has rejected allegations that the Superintendent of Central Prison, Chanchalguda, took a bribe to help a rowdy-sheeter accused in an advocate’s murder secure bail.

The department also denied claims that the prison official helped the accused plan further attacks. The clarification came after statements attributed to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

Jail authorities have no role in granting bail

The department called the allegations against the Superintendent “completely baseless, false and without any factual foundation”.

It also denied any corruption, collusion or special favour to any prisoner.

The department said the competent court decides whether to grant bail. Therefore, jail authorities have no role in granting or deciding bail.

Instead, the prison administration only carries out orders issued by the courts. It follows the prescribed rules and procedures while doing so.

The department said anyone with evidence to support the allegations can submit it to the competent authority. The authorities can then verify the claims and take action under the law, if required.

Prison department denies unauthorised meetings

The department also said it does not allow unauthorised gatherings or prisoner meetings inside the prison.

It manages prisoners based on their security classification, institutional needs and prison rules. In addition, officials monitor prison activities to prevent criminal acts, intimidation and conspiracies.

The department said it would take strict action against any prisoner or staff member who violates prison rules. It would also act against anyone who tries to support unlawful activities.

The department further rejected claims that a prisoner could use prison facilities to plan or coordinate attacks outside the jail.

It reiterated its commitment to transparency, integrity, security and accountability in prison administration. The department also said it would take all necessary steps to protect prisoners, prison staff and the public.
