Telangana police officers awarded President’s Police Medals on Republic Day eve

HYDERABAD: Several police personnel from Telangana were conferred the President’s Police Medals on Sunday, on the eve of Republic Day celebrations, in recognition of their distinguished and meritorious service.

Two receive President’s Medal for Distinguished Service

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to Manda G.S. Prakash Rao, additional superintendent of police with the Intelligence Security Wing, Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence Cell, Hyderabad, and sub-inspector Annu Damodar Reddy.

Senior officers, battalion personnel among meritorious awardees

Inspector-General (Special Intelligence Branch, Intelligence) B. Sumathi and deputy superintendent of police K.V.M. Prasad of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) were among those who received the Medal for Meritorious Service.

Others honoured included P. Venkat Ramulu, commandant, 13th Battalion, Telangana Special Police (TSP), Gudipet, Mancherial district; Attluri Bhanu Murthy, additional commandant, 8th Battalion, TSP, Kondapur; and reserve inspector V. Purushotham Reddy, 5th Battalion, TSP, Chalvai, Mulugu district.

DSPs M. Shankar of the Economic Offences Wing, Criminal Investigation Department; C. Vamsi Mohan Reddy of Police Communications, Support and Services, Hyderabad; and T. Laxmi of the Police Training Centre, Amberpet, were also awarded the medal.

Sub-inspectors B. Yellaiah of Vemulawada and Syed Abdul Kareem of the Counter-Intelligence Cell, Hyderabad, along with assistant sub-inspector B. Anandam of Pegadapalli in Jagtial district, figured in the list of recipients.

At the elite anti-Maoist Greyhounds force, Medals for Meritorious Service were announced for woman home guard Burranolla Renuka (No. 130), Masaram Ravi (No. 30) and Pittakala Jangaiah (No. 62).

Cyberabad head constable gets gallantry medal

Head constable Marri Venkat Reddy of the Cyberabad commissionerate was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry. He was the only police official from Telangana to receive a gallantry award this year.

Venkat Reddy, head constable 3159, has completed 23 years of service and is posted at the Serilingampally Central Crime Station, earlier known as the Madhapur CCS. The award was conferred for his bravery during the arrest of a wanted criminal, Bathula Prabhakar, at a pub in Gachibowli.

Police said Prabhakar opened fire when Venkat Reddy moved forward to arrest him, injuring the head constable on his left foot. Prabhakar is known to be involved in a series of college burglary cases.

Officers react to recognition

Speaking to Media, IG Sumathi said the award was a recognition of her work in the state. Working in the specialised wing of the Special Intelligence Branch, she said she would strictly implement the Union home ministry’s policy and comply with the state government’s strategic framework.

K.V.M. Prasad told Media that he had detected several cybercrime cases during his tenure as assistant commissioner of police, cybercrime, Hyderabad. He said he had earlier received three silver medals for meritorious service in cybercrime and a United Nations medal.
