Telangana police arrests fugitive after 14 years manhunt

Hyderabad: After evading law enforcement for 14 years, Pappu Patel, accused in a 2010 cheating case, has finally been apprehended by the Telangana police. Patel who was accused in a cheating case registered by Telangana police in 2010 was absconding since then. Patel, who impersonated an ICICI bank official and stole a customer’s bank credentials through a fake email, was tracked down and arrested in Mumbai.
Going further into details, Papu patel impersonating as an Official from ICICI bank sent a fake email to one of the customers Sangala Prabhakar to update his account details and stole the bank credentials.
After the complaint Sangala Prabhakar shared the information as requested along with his password. Subsequently, when the complainant checked his account status surprised to find that Rs.1,00,000 was transferred from his account to another account of the ICICI Bank, Mumbai without his knowledge. After realizing that he fell into cyber fraud and approached the police and lodged a complaint with the CID, Telangana. Subsequently, Cyber Crimes, CID, TG, Hyderabad registered a case and started investigation and filed a charge sheet against Pappu patel. Following which the local Nampally court in Hyderabad has issued Non Bailable Warrant (NBWs) against him.
On the directions of Smt. Shikha Goel, Additional Director General of police(DGP), Crime Investigation department(CID), TG and under the supervision of B. Ram Reddy, Superintendent of Police formed a special team to execute the NBWs. The Special Execution Team consisting of V.Vijay Kumar, Inspector of Police, M.Naresh, Sub Inspector of Police(SIP), Assistant Sub Inspectors(ASI)s- J.Ratnaji Rao, P.Madan Mohan Reddy and J.Shankaraiah, and Head constable R.Manmohan, traced Patel who was evading from Police for more than 14 years apprehended him onTuesday under Dharavi Police Station limits, Mumbai City of Maharashtra State and produced him before the local court in Nampally, Hyderabad for judicial custody on Wednesday.
