Hyderabad tax revenue hits ₹16,372 crore in October

HYDERABAD: Telangana recorded its highest-ever monthly tax revenue in October, with collections crossing ₹16,372 crore. Data released by the Comptroller and Auditor General in its October 2025 update showed that the state registered unprecedented gains across key tax components.
Excise income sees sharp rise this year
Officials in the finance department said the state had never logged revenue at this scale in a single month since its formation. They attributed the growth to two major factors. First, monthly excise collections have been consistently above ₹1,000 crore, but October alone brought in about ₹3,675 crore.
The government invited tenders for wine shops, generating ₹2,845 crore through applications, while liquor sales added another ₹900 crore. In addition, Telangana’s share in central taxes crossed ₹3,000 crore during the month.
Centre’s share strengthens overall receipts
Officials said the total tax revenue reached ₹16,372.42 crore as other tax streams also sustained their usual levels without decline.
Half of annual budget receipts already realised
According to CAG estimates, the state received more than half its annual budgeted receipts in the past seven months. Against the ₹2.83 lakh crore budget, combined revenues and borrowings amounted to nearly ₹1.45 lakh crore—about 51% of projections.
Of this, tax revenue stood at ₹88,000 crore, while borrowings exceeded ₹50,000 crore. The government raised about ₹5,000 crore in loans in October alone. Another ₹5,000 crore was borrowed in November, and ₹6,000 crore is set to be mobilised through bond auctions on December 2. Officials said borrowings may cross ₹60,000 crore by the end of December.
