HMDA plans radial roads connecting ORR to RRR in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Telangana has added two large road network projects to its Telangana Rising Vision-2047 document, proposing two state-wide ring systems named Telangana Manihaaram and Prajavalyam.

State to build two new ring systems

The government said the proposed corridors will support regional connectivity beyond the Outer Ring Road and the under-construction Regional Ring Road. Officials described them as long-term infrastructure intended to drive growth across districts.

Telangana Manihaaram is planned close to the state borders, stretching about 1,150 km. It is designed to encircle major cities, district headquarters and peri-urban zones. The government said the corridor will link national highways and radial roads emerging from the Regional Ring Road, enabling movement from any corridor to another.

Authorities believe the network will encourage industrial development and tourism along the corridor and attract investment through stronger road infrastructure.

Rural corridor to strengthen village connectivity

The second proposed project, Prajavalyam, will run about 770 km. The government said it is intended to boost rural Telangana by providing fast connectivity between mandals and villages.

The corridor is expected to speed up the movement of agricultural produce to markets and improve access to employment, education and health services. The government said the project will bring new accessibility to villages that currently lack reliable road links.

Cost estimate crosses ₹36,000 crore

Together, both corridors will create 1,220 km of new road networks at an estimated cost of over ₹36,000 crore. According to the government, Manihaaram will “adorn the state like a garland”, while Prajavalyam will serve as a “lifeline” for villages, forming a foundation for equitable progress by 2047.

However, officials acknowledged that the proposals are still part of the vision document. The state continues to face challenges completing the Regional Ring Road, planned 50 km from the Outer Ring Road. Land acquisition for the northern section is nearing completion but still facing hurdles, while work on the southern section has not begun and the alignment is not final.

Despite these obstacles, the government said it is preparing to take up both mega projects in the long term.
