Telangana Takes Digital Leap to Speed Up Criminal Justice
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Judicial Academy, Secunderabad, will hold a conference on Thursday. Telangana Police will coordinate the event.
The conference will focus on strengthening the criminal justice system through digital platforms.
Titled “New Criminal Laws – Strengthening Criminal Justice System through Digital Platforms,” the conference will discuss the implementation of the new criminal laws. It will also focus on better coordination among key departments.
These include the police, judiciary, prosecution, medical, forensic and prison departments.
Telangana High Court Chief Justice Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh will inaugurate the conference. He will attend as the chief guest. Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya and Advocate General A Sudarshan Reddy will also attend. Senior officials from the judiciary, police, prisons and prosecution departments are expected to participate.
Digital evidence and case management
Ahead of the event, stakeholders held a review meeting. They discussed the digital implementation of the new criminal laws.
Officials also reviewed presentations prepared for the conference. They suggested changes to improve the presentations.
Meanwhile, the conference will examine challenges in implementing the new laws. It will also focus on coordination between agencies from investigation to trial. Technical sessions will cover several digital tools. These include e-Sakshya, e-FIR and digital evidence management. The sessions will also cover video-conference recording of evidence. Digital case management will be another key topic.
Faster digital submissions to aid justice
According to the statement, Telangana ranks low nationally in timeline compliance. The state also faces gaps in information and communication technology adoption. The statement linked these gaps to weak coordination among agencies.
However, officials said better coordination can improve the situation. They also stressed the need to follow statutory timelines.
In addition, faster digital submission of evidence and reports can speed up justice delivery. The conference aims to improve coordination among agencies. It will also seek to strengthen Telangana’s implementation of the new criminal laws.
