Revanth Reddy Strengthens Grip in Telangana Civic Polls

HYDERABAD: The Congress party wins the highest number of seats in the municipal elections held in Telangana, signalling support for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his government.
BRS campaign fails to dent Congress
The elections, held on party symbols, were seen as a test of urban voter sentiment. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had hoped that party symbols would influence voters. It also expected people to compare its ten-year rule with the Congress government’s two years in office.
BRS leaders, including working president K T Rama Rao and former minister Harish Rao, campaigned extensively across the state. They highlighted what they described as shortcomings in the present government.
They alleged that Rythu Bharosa funds had not been released, the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme was not implemented effectively, and several election promises remained unfulfilled. They repeatedly said that welfare schemes were delivered more effectively during the tenure of former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Development, welfare sway urban electorate
However, the results indicate that voters strengthened Revanth Reddy’s leadership. Urban voters appeared to have considered development and welfare initiatives in their choice.
Many believe the Congress government has taken steps to attract investments and expand the state’s growth, including plans linked to the proposed Fourth City project. Overall, the results suggest there is no visible anti-incumbency against the Congress government.
Voters appear to have felt that the government is accessible and responsive to their concerns. The BRS campaign did not significantly impact the outcome, according to the trends reflected in the results.
