Telangana MPs record high attendance, fewer debates than national average in 18th Lok Sabha

Telangana MPs asked 678 questions, BJP led with 316
AIMIM topped both attendance and debate participation

HYDERABAD: Members of Parliament from Telangana recorded above-average attendance in the first year of the 18th Lok Sabha but lagged behind the national benchmark in debates. The review covers 15 MPs, excluding two ministers whose performance data is not officially recorded.
Questions raised
Telangana MPs together asked 678 parliamentary questions between June 24, 2024, and April 4, 2025.
The Bharatiya Janata Party accounted for 316 questions, followed by the Congress with 308 and AIMIM with 54.
On average, MPs from the state raised 45.2 questions each, slightly lower than the national average of 46.8. Among parties, AIMIM recorded the highest average (54), ahead of BJP (52.7) and Congress (38.5).
Debate participation
Telangana MPs spoke in 119 debates, averaging 7.9 per member, compared with the national average of 11.8.
Congress MPs led with 56 debates, followed by BJP (42) and AIMIM (21). AIMIM’s sole MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, had the highest individual average with 21 interventions.
Attendance
Overall attendance of Telangana MPs stood at 88.53%, higher than the national average of 87%. AIMIM again topped the chart with 92.65%, followed closely by BJP MPs at 92.16%. Congress MPs recorded 85.29%.
Top performers
Using a weighted scoring system (questions, debates and attendance), D K Aruna (Mahbubnagar), Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy (Bhongir) and Asaduddin Owaisi (Hyderabad) emerged as the top three performers. Eatala Rajender (Malkajgiri) and Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy (Khammam) completed the top five.
Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy (79) and Arvind Dharmapuri (80) topped in questions asked, while Owaisi led in debates. In attendance, D K Aruna (100%), Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao (97.06%) and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy (95.59%) were the leading members.
The analysis highlights that while Telangana MPs maintained strong attendance and were active in raising questions, their participation in debates was below the national average.
