Telangana tops country in mobile phone recoveries through CEIR portal

HYDERABAD: Telangana has become the leading state in India in recovering stolen and missing mobile phones through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, crossing the one-lakh mark in total recoveries.
According to the CEIR dashboard, the state has traced and returned 1,00,020 mobile devices as of October 16, 2025. The portal, developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to curb mobile theft and counterfeit devices, is being implemented in Telangana by the Crime Investigation Department (CID). It is currently operational across all 780 police stations in the state.
The CEIR system was first launched on September 5, 2022, in pilot states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi and the North Eastern states. Telangana rolled out the platform on April 19, 2023—226 days after the pilot but has since emerged as the top-performing state in terms of recoveries.
Hyderabad, Warangal lead recoveries
Among police units, Hyderabad Commissionerate recorded the highest number of traced and unblocked devices at 14,965, followed by Warangal Commissionerate (5,564), Kamareddy (3,860), Rajanna Sircilla (2,074), Jogulamba Gadwal (1,998) and Suryapet (2,267).
Officials credited the achievement to dedicated work by field officers who closely monitor traceability reports, contact individuals in possession of lost phones, and ensure the devices are returned to their rightful owners.
Citizen-friendly digital integration
Telangana Police, in coordination with DoT, has integrated CEIR services with the TG Police Citizen Portal. Citizens can report lost or stolen phones via www.tspolice.gov.in or directly on www.ceir.gov.in.
Officials said the portal has helped many citizens recover their phones, with several positive testimonials highlighting its efficiency.
CID lauded for coordination with DoT
Additional Director General, CID, appreciated the work of CID teams and officers coordinating with DoT officials, including the Deputy Director General (Security), Director (Security), and Junior Telecom Officer (Security), for their contribution to achieving this milestone.
