Gandhi, Osmania attract top NEET rankers

HYDERABAD: The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has completed the first-phase allotment of MBBS seats under the competent authority quota for the 2026-27 academic year.
Of the 6,413 seats available in government and private medical colleges across Telangana, 4,734 seats were allotted in the first phase. Gandhi Medical College and Osmania Medical College emerged as the preferred choices among high-ranking candidates.
Gandhi, Osmania draw a large share of top ranks
Students in the first phase largely opted for Gandhi Medical College and Osmania Medical College, besides Kakatiya Medical College, RIMS and other institutions.
The source copy states that 320 students secured seats at Gandhi Medical College and 145 at Osmania Medical College, taking the combined figure to 365. However, the headline in the source mentions 220 students at Gandhi Medical College. The discrepancy has been retained here for editorial verification rather than resolved without evidence.
Among those allotted seats at Gandhi Medical College were rank 43 holder Kompella Sai Gayatri Tejo Arunima, rank 158 holder Mamidi Chaitanya and rank 967 holder Sripathi Vaishnavi.
At Osmania Medical College, rank 1,064 holder Erukulla Abhiram, rank 2,805 holder Tandle Vaishnavi and rank 4,381 holder Amair Anas were among those who secured seats.
The source further states that 164 students secured seats at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, 140 at Government Medical College, Nizamabad, 114 at Government Medical College, Mahabubnagar, 110 at Government Medical College, Nalgonda, 105 at Government Medical College, Suryapet, 92 at Government Medical College, Mancherial and 19 at RIMS Medical College, Adilabad.
Students told to report with original certificates
Students allotted seats have been directed to report to their respective medical colleges by 4pm on September 8 with their original certificates, allotment order and university fee payment receipt.
University officials said admissions would be cancelled if students failed to report within the stipulated deadline. Such seats would be treated as vacant and filled during the subsequent phase of counselling.
Students can check the complete details on the university’s official website, www.knruhs.telangana.gov.in.
Category-wise allotments and cut-off ranks
Of the 4,734 seats allotted in the first phase, the remaining 1,679 seats will be filled in the next phase.
The source copy lists the category-wise allotments and cut-off ranks, but several figures are distorted in the supplied text. The clearly readable entries include 1,175 seats for the open category with a cut-off rank of 1,62,980 and 102 seats for the economically weaker sections category with a cut-off rank of 88,501.
It also lists 401 seats for BC-A with a cut-off rank of 3,10,517 and 568 seats for BC-B with a cut-off rank of 1,78,074. Several subsequent category figures in the source are OCR-distorted and require verification against the original allotment data before publication.
The source states that 172 students secured seats in minority medical colleges.
Telangana may get 400 more medical PG seats
The state may get more than 400 new postgraduate medical seats in government and private medical colleges from the 2026-27 academic year.
After the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examinations, National Medical Commission teams have begun field inspections in the state.
Officials are inspecting teaching hospitals in Khammam, Kamareddy, Karimnagar and Bhadradri Kothagudem, among other places, to assess whether they meet the prescribed standards.
The inspections cover bed capacity, inpatient load, faculty, equipment, teaching facilities and research infrastructure.
Officials said the Centre would approve postgraduate seats if the state government addressed any shortcomings found during the inspections. Telangana currently has 4,019 postgraduate medical seats
