Telangana police oversee Maoist surrender led by Barse Deva in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Around 20 Maoists surrendered before Director General of Police Shivdhar Reddy on Thursday afternoon, police said. The surrender took place at around 3 pm.

Among those who surrendered was Barse Deva, identified as the chief of the Maoist party’s Guerrilla Liberation Army. Police said Deva appeared before the Telangana DGP along with other key operatives.

Major arms haul after Kagar operation

Police said 48 mounted light machine guns were surrendered during the operation. Cash amounting to ₹20 lakh was also handed over. Officials said Barse Deva submitted the entire amount to the State Intelligence Bureau.

This is being described as the largest arms surrender in Telangana after the Kagar operation.

Police term it biggest surrender under Shivdhar Reddy

Police sources said the surrender also included senior Maoist leaders Kankanala Raji Reddy and others. Another 20 Maoists are expected to surrender as part of the same initiative.

The home department has commended the Telangana State Intelligence Bureau for its role. Police said the surrender was the biggest achieved under the leadership of DGP Shivdhar Reddy.
