Telangana prepares to extend ₹500 LPG scheme

HYDERABAD The state government is preparing to extend the ₹500 LPG cylinder facility being implemented under the Mahalakshmi scheme, one of its six guarantees. The Civil Supplies Department has prepared plans for the expansion.

At present, 42.90 lakh families across the state are benefiting from the scheme. The Civil Supplies Department has now identified more than five lakh additional families as eligible.

The department has sent the list of eligible beneficiaries for government approval. The file is currently under examination by the Finance Department. Once it is approved, the new beneficiaries will receive the subsidy.

The government issued notification for the scheme in February 2024, following which 91.49 lakh people across the state applied. Of these, 42.90 lakh were identified as eligible beneficiaries and the scheme was extended to the LPG cylinders used by them.
