Telangana’s Lok Adalat: Over 1,38,000 cases settled in single day

Hyderabad: In a sweeping effort to clear case backlogs and provide swift justice, Telangana’s National Lok Adalat settled over 1,38,000 cases and refunded a record Rs 27.2 crore to cyber fraud victims.
A total of 1,38,427 cases were successfully liquidated during this process. According to the data from the police department, it had resolved 23,251 First Information Report (FIR) cases, 4,186 disaster management cases, 57,475 e-petty cases, and 53,515 motor vehicle act violations.
Nizamabad district led with 19,053 cases settled, followed by Hyderabad with 12,247, Suryapet (11,178), Cyberabad (10,935), and Rachakonda with 9,823 cases.
In addition to the above cases settled during the National Lok Adalat, refunds in Cyber Crimes were also undertaken. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau’s (TGCSB) facilitation of refunds to cyber fraud victims. TGCSB returned Rs 27.2 crore to 5,355 victims, surpassing its previous record of Rs 21.6 crore from June 2024.

“Since February 2024, we’ve refunded Rs 114.7 crore to 11,868 victims,” said Shikha Goel, Director of TGCSB, adding that “This underscores our commitment to delivering timely financial relief to those affected by cybercrime.”
The Cyberabad police unit topped the refund list, returning Rs 13.73 crore across 2,860 cases. Rachakonda and TGCSB followed, refunding Rs 3.02 crore and Rs 2.51 crore respectively. Goel added, “The success was due to collaboration between TGCSB officers, the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, District Judges, Magistrates, and law enforcement agencies. Together, we created a framework to address the financial fallout of cybercrimes on citizens.”
The Lok Adalat provides a platform for the public to resolve compoundable cases amicably, reducing court appearances, saving time and money, and offering peace of mind. The public is encouraged to utilize it to settle matters efficiently.
