Telangana ranks last among large States in Consumer Justice Ranking 2026

HYDERABAD: Telangana has been ranked last among large and mid-sized States in the Consumer Justice Ranking 2026, according to the India Justice Report (IJR) released on Wednesday.
Vacancies, lack of district forums weaken consumer justice delivery
The report said there was no president at the Telangana State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (SCDRC) as of 2025. It also noted a 25 per cent vacancy among presidents of the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions (DCDRCs).
Only 12 district commissions were functioning across the State’s 33 districts. This fell short of the mandate requiring at least one dedicated consumer forum in every district.
Case disposal time far exceeds stipulated norms, report notes
The IJR found that nearly 1,000 days were required to dispose of a case at the State Commission. This was almost six times higher than the stipulated timeline of 90–150 days.
However, the SCDRC had no shortfall in members. Telangana was among only four States to report zero vacancy among members at the State Commission level.
Housing, insurance and agriculture dominate consumer disputes filed
One in every four cases filed with the SCDRC related to the housing sector. Insurance disputes accounted for 21 per cent, while agriculture-related cases made up 15 per cent.
About 74 per cent of cases filed at the State Commission took more than a year for disposal. On average, the SCDRC required 974 days to conclude a case.
At the district level, 61 per cent of cases filed in DCDRCs took more than a year for disposal. Nearly 44 per cent required over 20 hearings. The average disposal time in district commissions stood at 669 days.
