Telangana Well Horror: Student Held After Robbery
HYDERABAD: A 55-year-old woman survived nearly 21 hours inside a remote agricultural well in Telangana’s Karimnagar district after a man allegedly robbed her and pushed her into it, police said.
Investigators later arrested a 21-year-old student. They alleged that he planned the robbery to repay debts from online gambling and betting.
Police said the accused had lost nearly ₹4 lakh on gambling and betting platforms. He was under severe financial pressure. After robbing the woman, he allegedly pushed her into the well because he feared she could identify him.
The woman remained trapped in the well for almost a full day. Rescue teams eventually pulled her out alive after nearly 21 hours.
Investigation points to gambling-related debts
Police said the student had accumulated heavy debts after repeated losses on online gambling and betting platforms. Investigators traced the robbery and the alleged attempt to kill the woman to him before taking him into custody.
Police continue to investigate the case and are examining the sequence of events that led to the incident.
