Junior doctors in Telangana warn of protests over stipend delays

HYDERABAD: Junior doctors in Telangana have raised strong objections to repeated delays in stipend disbursement, warning that continued neglect could trigger state-wide protests.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) said the uncertainty over stipend release has left many medicos struggling to pay rent, tuition fees, and meet daily expenses.
The association, which represents junior doctors, senior residents, super specialities, dental postgraduates, house surgeons and nursing students, accused the state Finance Department of stalling payments.
Stipend crisis impacts medical workforce
TJUDA said that despite repeated appeals, the issue of delayed stipends remains unresolved. The association demanded a fixed monthly schedule for payments and a system of accountability to ensure timely disbursement.
“Failure to address our issues will force medicos and allied health professionals to consider launching protests and collective action,” the association said.
Government yet to respond
The stipend delays come at a time when government hospitals are already facing pressure due to staff shortages and rising patient loads. TJUDA said the situation was demoralising for young doctors, who form the backbone of the state’s public health system.
The state government has not yet issued an official response to the warning.
